ABS Brake Modules

The ABS module (also called an EBCM or ABS control module) runs the anti-lock braking system. It reads the wheel-speed sensors and modulates brake pressure to keep the wheels from locking up under hard braking. On most modern vehicles the same unit also handles traction control and stability control, so a failure can take out more than just ABS.

The most common signs are the ABS warning light, plus traction-control or stability-control lights, sometimes together. You may also see the speedometer drop out, get a brake or stability message, or find that ABS simply doesn't activate. A scan usually stores chassis (C) codes pointing at the control unit or its internal circuits.

It depends on the vehicle. Many ABS/EBCM units need to be programmed or coded to the vehicle after install; some are plug-and-play when the OEM part number matches exactly. If you're not sure, message us your VIN and the number stamped on your old module and we'll tell you which path yours is.

New dealer units are expensive and often still need programming, and there's rarely a true aftermarket equivalent for an ABS controller. A tested OEM used module with a matching part number is the correct, direct part. Every unit we sell is pulled, inspected, and tested for functionality before it's listed.
