Adding a factory trailer brake controller to your Ford F-150 and why they're not plug and play. Your F-150 has a blank coin holder on the dash. Your truck is already pre-wired for a real Ford brake controller. Popping out that coin tray reveals the factory gray harness right behind your dashboard. You have to turn the feature on in the BCM using a laptop with four scan or a quick 10 minute flash at a repair shop. Do not pay $300 plus for a brand new module. When a tested OEM used unit, it hooks up to the exact same harness and works just as well. Also 2009 to 2010 F-150s require AL34 prefix while 2011 to 2012 require the BL34 prefix.
