The SKIM module on '03–'07 Cadillac CTS and SRX controls the immobilizer circuit — when it fails, the car cranks but won't start, and the security light stays on. This is an OEM unit that will require re-programming to your VIN by a dealer or locksmith before it'll recognize your key.
