symptoms of a bad shift assembly and how to tell if your shifter is going bad. Now, a lot of you F-150 owners out there may recognize this console shifter right here. If you've ever gotten in your truck ready to go to work and you can go to shift into drive and realize the shifter lever is locked up, you know the real panic of having a faulty shift assembly. But not to leave my Ram truck friends out. If you've got a classic steering column shifter like this, your biggest headache is usually a shift lever that's sloppy, loose, and jiggles around between gears. And the exact same thing goes for your jam truck owners. After 30 years and OAM model parts, I can tell you these things fail for many different reasons. The Ford floor units usually suffer from a failed internal interlock shifter solenoid. But these Ram and GM setups, the mechanical linkages and the internal shift tubes take a physical beating until they wear out or break entirely. Dealerships charge a fortune for a brand new factory shifter.
